The Interview Process Essay I have client, a native of India and her name is Vibhuti. She came here to the United States to find work so that she can help her family out financially and give them a better life. Vibhuti is not able to speak English very well, nor is she familiar with the traditions that we have as Americans. She has two children, ages 5 and 2, and with her broken English, she is having a hard time finding a job. She came to our Organization to seek help in obtaining a job, medical insurance, and help with food as she is still trying to find work to support her needs as well as the needs of her family. Interview Process The first time that I met Vibhuti was during our initial interview. During the interview, I was able to assess vibhuti’s weaknesses and strengths and we were able to talk about her needs, what types of services that she can use and how we can help her. The interview was helpful in giving me more information about her. I was able to explain to Vibhuti our organizations policies as well. After getting to know each other, I went ahead and gave Vibhuti an assessment to figure out what her strengths were as well as what type of job might interest her. The results of the assessment that she was given will be used for our future planning when it comes to finding employment for her. For the food and medical assistance, I was able to gather the information needed from her in order to start some emergency assistantce for Vibhuti and her family immediately. The most challenging part for the both of us, is finding her a job that can support her and her family. The assessment is the second part of the interview process. The last part of the interview would be the closure but we can do the closure once all of Vibhuti’s needs are met, including finding a job. During the interview process, I assured Vibhuti that all of the information she provided to our organization would be kept confidential as part of our confidentiality agreement as well as our commitment to our clients’ privacy.  Everything that Vibhuti had or will say, will be kept confidential unless the information can be used to save someone from harm or even death, a matter of life and death is the only reason that could make her information become more public. In case such a need arises, there is a written consent form that she would also needs to sign, informing her that some information she divulged will be used publicly. Active Listening and Questioning During the Interview Process, I used my skills in active listening to make sure that I heard and understood everything that Vibhuti said. I made sure that Vibhuti seen and felt how interested and invested I was with her problems and how willing I was to help her in any way that I could. I also made sure to keep direct eye contact with Vibhuti as well as give simple responses while she was talking in order for her to be aware that I was indeed listening to everything that she was saying, this also helped her to keep talking and telling me things about her and her family so that I could better understand the situation at hand. There are times when Vibhuti stopped talking because she was gathering her thoughts, I was able to use that time to write down some simple notes about our interview. During the interview, I also used closed and open ended questions. An example of a closed ended question that I asked because I needed a specific answer was: â€Å"how many people are living in your home?† One of the examples of an open ended question that I asked Vibhuti was: What types of feelings and emotions are you experiencing since you have relocated to the United States? By asking her this type of question, it allowed her to elaborate a little more about herself and how she was feeling about everything, this allowed me to narrow down what types of other services that she may be in need of. At times during the interview, there were instances when I was unable to completely understand what Vibhuti was saying, so in order to clarify things, I paraphrased what she said. This not only allowed her to know that I was hearing everything that she was saying as well as give her the chance to help me understand anything that may have been misunderstood. Strength Based Approach The interview that was conducted gave me an idea of what types of services  that Vibhuti will need as well as give me and idea of what her strengths are. After we went over what her strengths and interests were, we were able to formulate a plan that would help her get started in a positive direction to achieve the goals that she desired. Since she will be utilizing her strengths, she said that she felt more confident and she feels that she can do any job that we help find for her. One of Vibhuti’s strengths is her willingness to do whatever it takes to help her family and her eagerness to start right away with meeting her goals. During the interview, I also learned that Vibhuti is fluent in two other languages, this definitely plays a big part in her strengths, and it opens up more doors for her when it comes to obtaining a good job. I can say that the interview that I had with Vibhuti went very well, not only for the client, but for myself as well. I was able to learn more about her Indian culture and open the lines of communication between us in order to start the helping process. College Students and Anti-Depressants Starting college can be a stressful time for any adolescent. For students suffering from depression it can be a traumatic experience. Worlds feel turned upside down. Even for those who manage to â€Å"cope,† pressures can cause these students to feel overwhelmed. Upon meeting Katelyn*, no one would ever suspect this tiny, thin blonde with a bubbly personality to be shy, much less depressed. Katelyn is a 19-year-old Northeastern University sophomore, who has been suffering from depression for about three years. â€Å"Sometimes everything seems like a big blur,† said Katelyn. â€Å"I have so much to do, so much to think about, and suddenly none of it seems important. It’s like the more I have to do and get done, the less motivated I feel.† As Katelyn talks, she transforms from an average college student to one with a serious illness, a condition that almost 24% of college students had been diagnosed with in 2003, at one time in their life. â€Å"Being depressed is not something that everyone can easily understand. There’s such a stigma that comes along with the term. So many people just see it as some fake, made-up condition that I should just be able to snap out of. What they don’t understand is that it’s not something that I can just will away,† said Katelyn. Katelyn’s story isn’t so different from other depressed college students nationwide. In college, young adults meet new peers and enter environments much different than high school. For many students, it will be the first time living on their own, away from the comforts of home. For the average student, this situation is extremely stressful and uncomfortable. For students who suffer from depression, these feelings are multiplied. According to an article by Josephine Marcotty in Minneapolis’ Star Tribune from April 10, college students lead â€Å"hyper-enriched lives,† said Greg Kneser, dean of students at St. Olaf College. That’s what makes this generation of students distinct from its predecessors, he said. That is why more students who cannot cope with these feelings end up at college counseling centers with â€Å"increasingly serious mental-health problems.† 15 to 20 percent of college students nationally were diagnosed with depression. The second most common diagnosis was severe anxiety. According to the article, it is not unusual for mental-health issues to become apparent during a student’s college years. According to Roseanne Gotterbarn, a psychologist from New York, college students who are depressed should seek professional help and, if necessary, help from medication as well. The gentle breeze of summer is kissing the rice fields of a well known man named Pedro. His majestic house is facing the fields as if they were being observed in a daily basis. Pedro is known for his kindness with his neighbors. He is able to help them in times of need and he is really ready for giving his hand to the charity. Though he resides in a rural area, his sons and daughters were sent to urban places where they can have new information about the world. The schools or universities where his children study are of high quality. Moreover, one of his daughters often get high grades at school that he really becomes so proud of her. Their neighbors are getting envious with the achievements that they get from the universities. Pedro thinks that he can retire at an early age given that there will be someone who will take care of the farms and, that will be his children who can make the business expand. One morning, Pedro realized that there were already 6 months since he last saw his firstborn. The 20 year old girl was taking up a course in the premium University of their State and is trying hard to pursue a degree in medicine. He named the girl Gennovive as the name may imply uniqueness and extravagance. Indeed, this girl’s education costs the largest among the 3 children of Pedro. Since she is pursuing medicine, Pedro and his wife Hanami, get used to seeing her only once in a month. But this time is different. With a very troublesome afternoon, Gen was scolded by his father for having a number of failing grades at school. This is the first time that the girl received those kinds of marls in the class cards. Emotions of Gen â€Å"The sole reason why I got those grades is the difficulty of the subjects themselves. † Those were the words Pedro remember Gen told her the time they had the encounter. The only thing that Gen was concerned about was to help his dad in putting up a new business and expanding their assets as she graduate from her school. She sobbed, closed herself in her dim lit room to reflect her shortcomings during the previous semester. She has some faults, yes! Letting someone get into her heart with such a close relationship and loving him whole heartedly. After some time, she found herself broken with the memories of her so-called boyfriend. Things that she could not confront with her dad, these are such examples. After that, she was too busy grieving for her loss only to realize how miserable she was with the mourning and crying. It was too late when she decided to take a step away from her past, from the man who actually stole her everything. Long Awaited With some tears on Pedro’s face, he saw a silhouette of a girl who eventually approached her and hugged her with tears. â€Å"Dad, I am sorry! †. Both of them were over whelmed that they did not notice Hanami approaching. Gen told her father of how she coped with her sadness and the reasons while she failed the last semester. In turn, she gave her dad 3 medals that she garnered for some contests in their university plus the news that she was chosen to be a delegate for the international campaign for health. The whole house was very happy for her arrival. Just like the story of the Biblical Prodigal Son, Pedro invited his closest friends to have a dinner at their place to celebrate Gen’s come back and the victory of being chosen as the delegate of the nation.
